Healthy coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse and economically valuable ecosystems on Earth, providing valuable and vital ecosystem services. Unfortunately, due to human activities, they are being lost at an alarming rate and one of the main results is coral bleaching. This phenomenon occurs when the water is too warm (global warming) and the corals expel the symbiotic algae that live in their tissues.
